Yeah, it seems like this is the way most people are doing it: Amazon’s Kindle store, or a Kindle app that just takes the book to the Amazon page and downloads it and then the Kindle app. I can’t say I’m one of them, but I’ve been wanting to buy an iPad for the past week or so, but I’m pretty sure it’s not going to happen.
I do appreciate the fact that Amazon is still making the Kindle a good option for many people. I do however think that Apple should have put the iPad’s in the same category as the Kindle, and Amazon should have taken this opportunity to update its own store. I cant say that I agree with that, but I do think that its a good opportunity for Amazon to take advantage of that it might not have been able to do with the Kindle.
That’s what I think too. With the Kindle, the iPad was so new that Amazon wanted to show off what it was missing with it. The Kindle, on the other hand, was already a good option, so Amazon should have put it in a different category if they had wanted to do that.
Amazon should have added an option to let customers sort books by, for example, author, rating, or language. I think it would have been a great opportunity to market the Kindle. It would have been an even better opportunity if Amazon had taken advantage of the Kindle’s popularity to do it. But Amazon didn’t.
Amazon is the only major bookstore that isn’t trying to compete with Barnes & Noble. As a result, it only has a handful of options to choose from. And they didn’t do much to promote the Kindle, either.
So now you have a store that doesnt even have a Barnes & Noble. It doesnt seem to be a big deal, but if Amazon wants to get into the book market, it needs to market its own books (which it doesnt) and its own books that arent Amazon’s. And if Amazon wants to get into lending, the only way to do it is by selling its own books.
Its just wrong. Amazon needs to sell its own books and Amazon doesnt need to be competing with Barnes amp Noble. It doesnt have to compete with Barnes amp Noble to get into the bookstore business. It doesnt even have to compete with Barnes amp Noble to get into e-book sales. All it has to do is sell its own books. Amazon could have just listed an Amazon Kindle as a book, but no, it didnt. Its just wrong.
