You’ve probably heard of the term “robotics,” In the past, robots have been associated with large, expensive machines made for a specific task. However, this is not at all how modern robotics are. Instead, modern robotics is a science that deals with designing and building robots that enable them to move around independently without any help from humans.
This course covers the basics of robotic mechanism design and control systems. We will first go over the definitions of applications of robotics in various industries such as agriculture and everyday life (such as self-driving cars) before looking at what has changed in our relationship with robots in recent years due to AI development. We will also touch on the labor issues often associated with mechanical designs, a subject that has not garnered as much attention until now.
The following topics will be covered from my perspective as a robotics engineering undergraduate student:
- Motivation
- Mechanical Design
- Control Systems
- Application
- Perception
- Anticipated knowledge and skills
What are the main topic in Modern Robotics, Course: Foundations of Robot Motion?
A team of highly-skilled create and sell online courses of robotics and machine learning experts have put together this suite of online courses to help you master the latest developments in this rapidly advancing field. You’ll learn about the impact AI will have on robotic science and industry, whether you’re an engineer, scientist, or business person working in robotics or a recent college graduate with big dreams for your career. The topics covered will prepare you for getting a job in robotics or, perhaps, more importantly, creating the next great robotic engineer.
Complete list of modules:
- Module 1: Robotics Motivations
Building robots to do our bidding is both fun and challenging, and many businesses use robots to help them run their businesses more efficiently. Based on examples, explain what robotics is and what you might do with a robotics degree.
- Module 2: Mechanical Basics
This course covers the basics of how a robot is designed. Based on several example projects, you will learn the steps involved in designing a robot and understand the basics of mechanical engineering requirements.
- Module 3: Control Systems
If our robots are to be used for more challenging tasks than fetching us drinks, they need to be able to make decisions about how they interact with their environment. We will cover models of motion planning, motion control, and path planning algorithms.
- Module 4: Applications
We will look at how robots are used in various industries, such as entertainment and manufacturing, which is perhaps the most common field of application and self-driving cars.
- Module 5: Perception
How do we enable our machines to gather data from their environment and understand it? What methods have we developed to make sense of what they see and hear? This module will cover specific topics such as robotics perception systems and machine learning.
