For me, the “independently” word is a word of affirmation that I’m not just someone who works for someone else. I don’t need to ask someone else for anything and if I have to do something for them, I will do it myself or do it with my own money.
I see this word as a compliment. I like to feel that I can do whatever I want when I want to. I dont care about those around me. I dont need help. Im independant.
That’s one of the reasons I love independent movies. I dont need a producer. I dont need a studio. I dont need a director. I need an independent director.
I am just using the word “director” to describe someone who makes a movie. So someone who takes a script and makes a movie. A director is someone who has a vision for a project. They are not just someone who can put on his or her own production. That is not the role for an independent director. An independent director must be the owner of the project. That means they must have the authority to make the decision about the project.
A director is someone who can give a script to the writer, the writer gives it to the director who then makes a cut and tells the writer what she wants the final product to look like. That is the essence of independent filmmaking. But that is not what independent filmmakers are doing in the modern day. That is not how Hollywood works. That is not how you make movies. But there is a growing movement of independent filmmakers, especially in the Hollywood studios and Hollywood style moviemakers.
This is not a new phenomenon. It’s been going on for a long time. In fact, it’s such a big part of the industry that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is now considering allowing independent filmmakers to nominate themselves for membership. The idea is that it will create a more welcoming, less hierarchical atmosphere for independent filmmakers to work in.
I think that this is a great idea. That is, if studios and the big Hollywood movie studios will allow independent filmmakers to be more welcoming, less hierarchical, and give independent filmmakers a bigger voice.
The idea of independent filmmakers being more welcome and granting them a bigger voice in Hollywood might be a step in the right direction, but I think it would only be a small step.
The next step would be to start allowing independent filmmakers to be more powerful too. It seems like studios and the big Hollywood movie studios are afraid of independent filmmakers because independent filmmakers can do things that studios can’t.
I think a big hurdle for independent filmmakers is probably the lack of a ‘big brother’ that lets them down easy. I think that would be a good thing if we can have a system where people are allowed to do things they wouldn’t normally be allowed to do. Maybe if there was a system where some people could be more powerful than others, and where a person can be powerful if they have enough support from the community and not just big Hollywood moguls.
