So this is a post in the series titled The Science of Authenticity. This post was originally published in the Science of Authenticity podcast, hosted by Dr. Michael Snyder.
Basically, this is basically the question that every website has been asking for the past few years. It’s whether or not the URL should be used as a unique identifier for an website.
This is a question that I have been asking myself all along. But it’s been a while since I’ve been up in front of the computer and typing out a long list of questions, and even longer since I’ve been typing that list down. The reason for that is that there are so many ways to fake authentication, and so many ways to attack the process.
There are a number of different ways to fake authentication, none of which are easy to spot. For starters, the only thing that could possibly be used as a form of authentication is the user name and password. For a website to be a valid source of authentication, your page must have a unique identifier (URL). This identifier is what is used to create a unique URL. The uniqueness of the URL is used as a means of authentication.
The problem is, this unique identifier URL doesn’t exist in real life. This means that once you create the URL, it is basically impossible to come up with a unique one, or to modify the URL so it doesn’t have the same URL. However, the problem with using a URL as a means of authentication is that there is no way for you to change the URL’s uniqueness. You can try, but you cannot change the URL.
So, you’re saying someone has a URL that is just a random string of characters that they change every day or every week? Sounds like a pretty bad idea to me.
In the same way that you can’t change your email address, you can’t change your URL. That’s why you’re also able to use it as a means of authentication. You cant change the URL of your email address, you can’t change it of your bank account, and you can’t change it of your credit card. But with your URL, you can change your URL.
The downside is that it’s going to be very difficult to do this with a URL that isn’t stored on your computer. For example, if you have your bank account on your phone and you change your URL to change your account to a new one, your password for the old one will have to be reset. If you change your URL, you’re also going to have to reset your account password, because all the information that goes into it is gone.
This isn’t something that I personally think is a big deal. I think an issue with it is that with an account on your phone, you’re going to have to remember the URL to get access to it. I think it’s something that should be handled with caution.
