The analyst day is the day when all three of us are sitting in a room in a professional setting. The manager, author, and I talk about the big picture and the day’s highlights. We discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the business and the changes to the company. But there are also opportunities to do some of the things we could have done differently and explore our own strengths and weaknesses.
You know, it’s not uncommon for people to have meetings at a professional meeting like this. We all have our own ideas on the table, and when you’re sitting in that room, you’re not talking about your business in front of your boss. You’re talking about the things that you want to change and why. But there are a few things we can do to influence our own decisions and get a better feeling for what we’re doing.
One of the things we can do is to be open and honest with ourselves about our own strengths and weaknesses. We have to understand what we are good at and what we are bad at. That’s how we’re going to take the best decisions from the meeting and do our best to give it a better shot. Sometimes our weaknesses show up on the surface, and the best way to get around that is to do the best you can for the first few minutes.
One of the strengths that we’ve talked about in our analyst day course is the importance of being open and honest to ourselves. If we don’t, then we can’t learn how to take a better, more accurate, and more deliberate approach to the business of running a company or a team. We also need to be aware of our own tendencies and what may get us in trouble. We can’t afford to get into our own personal chaos.
This is a good place to start, because there is a good reason why you need to be open and honest to yourself. If you have a feeling that you are not getting the best out of a company or team, then you should be asking for help.
